Finishing Your Day Strong
Evening Routines
š Quote of Today
āMornings start the night beforeā
āļø Happy Sunday! We recently read Tim Urbanās famous blog post called āThe Tail Endā. We had an interesting perspective to share: Some moments decrease dramatically over time.
Like, days spent with parents.
Letās say you see your parents 6 times per year (one weekend every other month). But before college, you saw them pretty much every day.
Assuming they live healthily into their 90s, you only have 360 more days together⦠total.
Read that again.
6 weekends (12 days) per year x 30 more years = 360 days.
Let that sink in.
Now, compare those 360 days to your first 18 years of seeing them ~every day. The time you spent with them before you graduated high school (7k days) was 95% of your total time with them over the course of your lifeā¦
Youāre now enjoying the last 5% of your total in-person hangouts. This is the ātail end.ā
Not to start on a gloomy note, but life is all about perspective. In a time where it is normal to move cities for university, we need a reminder of how we spend our time and spending our time with people we love the most. On with the newsletterā¦
ā”ļøFocus of Today
While many highlight the magic of morning rituals, the unsung hero is the evening. How we wind down sets the stage for the morrow.
In this edition of Little by Little, let's dive into the power of night-time habits that pave the path for brighter days.
The Little Yet Mighty Night Rituals š
Craft Tomorrow's Blueprint: Inspired by Oliver Burkeman's 3:3:3
Dedicate 3 hours to your prime project.
List 3 brief tasks.
Jot down 3 upkeep chores.
Remember: defining success prevents endless pursuits.
Seal Your Workday:
Develop a short closing ritual (kudos to Cal Newport). A simple desk tidy-up and a whispered "goodnight" to your workspace draws a line between work and rest.Savor a Moment:
Relish in a tiny victory or joyālike a serene moment or a job well done. Journal it. Gratitude builds a life of richness.Dress for Success: Set out tomorrow's attire, especially if it involves a workout. Ready clothes can inspire immediate action.
Nourish Ahead: Hunger can shadow our best selves. Pre-pack healthy munchies for a swift grab-and-go.
Distance from Devices: Charge your phone beyond arm's reach. When the morning chimes ring, you'll rise without the lure of the screen. Embrace abundance over aimless scrolling.
Peace in Cleanliness: A sink without dishes is akin to a decluttered mind. Even Bill Gates finds solace in this task. Let it be a meditative moment.
Breathe Deep: Delve into the 4-7-8 breath technique to melt away tension and embrace sleep. Consistency in bedtime amplifies its power.
Delegate to Dreams: Channel Reid Hoffman's (co-founder of LinkedIn) wisdom. As you drift, pose a question for your subconscious. Perhaps, "How can I be more patient tomorrow?" Let the night work its magic.
One Step at a Time š¶āāļø
The vast array of evening practices might seem overwhelming. Yet, perfection is not the goalāprogress is. Choose a couple, embed them into your routine, and when they become second nature, embrace more.
Remember, it's always about progressing, little by little. š±
With love,
ā Amir and Erik
