The Difference 1 Degree of Change Makes

Quote of Today

“Stay away from those people who try to disparage your ambitions. Small minds will always do that, but great minds will give you a feeling that you can become great too.”

- Mark Twain

⚡️Article Summary of the Week

🤔 Imagine you are flying from New York's JFK Airport to Vancouver's YVR Airport. About a 6 hour 20 min flight. Distance is just shy of 2,500 miles. If the plane is off course by just 1 degree, you'd end up 41 miles away from the airport... now that's far away from where we were going! I'm sure you'd like to get to the destination printed on your ticket – not somewhere else.

🥁 A pilot explained a simple rule, and it profoundly relates to a lot of aspects of our lives.

Drum roll please...

✈️ THE 1 IN 60 RULE. For every 1 degree a plane is off track, you will end up being 1 mile off course for every 60 miles travelled. (Dear fellow Canadians, we are very sorry for using 'miles' but the article we chose this week is American, don't mark us as spam mail, please. 🇨🇦)

So what did we learn from this article?

Weekly article nuggets:

  • Create a very specific goal (like landing at YVR from JFK). Make sure you can measure it

  • Break the goal down into something digestible

  • Create excellent detailed processes and systems for how you will arrive at your goal - again, quantify and be specific

  • Focus on the systems to get there and make small corrections mid-flight

  • One degree of change can have a big impact

  • Turbulence and challenges are normal, persistence sets you apart

Happy Flying!
